Workshop Content: Paola will be teaching a Milaya Lef choreography
featuring A-Z combinations, Isadora Duncan inspired fusion workshops to
include Dark Moon and Water Movement, and Balkan Bellydance Circles.
Brief descriptions are below.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:
Balkan Belly Dance Circle – Fusing Circle dance steps with Belly Dance for a fun, easy –to –learn
community dance. Set to great Gypsy Brass Wedding Music, this is a great party dance!
Aashek – Shaabi sensation! Intermediate steps blend in a flirty, colorful arrangement of Hoda’s hit song.
This choreography is also offered using the Milaya Lef, the coined Alexandrian veil. It can be arranged for
troupe as well. Last taught at International Belly Dance Week in Winnipeg, Canada and at the A to Z
teachers conference in Cairo, September 2007. A limited amount of Milayas will be available or sale
at the workshop.
***Dark Moon - A theatrical journey in dance taking the participant through a ritualized exploration of
element-inspired movements infused with Isadora Duncan expression and gesture. This is an evocative
piece symbolizing the deep, mystical, intuitive nature of Woman.
***Water Movement – Inspired by the Sea and the fluid properties of water. Learn beautiful flowing,
fractal movements perfect for the song “Caravan”, or for use with your troupe or Tribal group. Fresh,
creative combinations.
***Workshops Dark Moon and Water Movement Dark Moon and Water movement are technique and
theory explorations introducing basic Isadora Duncan technique adapted to an Oriental Dance context.
They are not choreographies per se but offer full-count sequences that inspire dancers to the Duncan
"spirit". They also include a good amount of instruction on approach, theory, and imagery - 1) What
inspired the movement to begin with, 2) Using bio-mechanics and geometry to achieve the movement 3)
Using imagery to structure movement and give it more meaning. Perfect for the dancer who is starting to
think for herself and become curious about the creative choreographic process.
